Language family

From The Language Wiki

A language family is a group of languages that are related because they descended from a common ancestral language. Languages within a language family share similarities in their phonology, grammar and vocabulary. These similarities can be traced back to the ancestor language through comparative linguistics, a method of comparing historically related languages to reconstruct the proto-language that they evolved from. Some examples of language families include Indo-European, Afro-Asiatic, Austronesian, and many more.
